Cropping an image to a square 1:1 aspect ratio is essential for Instagram posts, profile pictures across all platforms, product thumbnails in e-commerce, and app icons. The square format creates a balanced, visually pleasing composition that works consistently across all display contexts.
When cropping to a square, the key decision is which part of the image to include. For portraits, center the face. For products, center the item. For landscapes, select the most interesting section. The ImgTools crop tool lets you drag to select exactly which area you want.
With ImgTools, upload your image, switch to the Crop tab, select the 1:1 preset, and drag on the image to select your square area. Fine-tune the position using the X, Y, Width, and Height inputs. Then download your perfectly cropped square image.
After cropping, you can switch to the Resize tab to set the exact pixel dimensions. For Instagram, resize to 1080x1080. For profile pictures, 400x400 is sufficient. For thumbnails, 300x300 or 150x150 depending on the platform.
