Circular profile pictures are used by Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, and virtually every social media platform. While these platforms automatically apply a circular crop, having a properly pre-cropped circular image ensures your subject is perfectly centered.
The circle crop process involves first cropping to a 1:1 square (to define the circular boundary), then the platform applies the circular mask. For a custom circular image with a transparent background, you would need to use an image editor that supports transparency.
With ImgTools, start by using the Crop tab with the 1:1 square preset. Center your face or subject within the square, leaving appropriate margins for the circular crop that social media platforms will apply. Then resize to the recommended dimensions.
Recommended profile picture sizes: Instagram 320x320, Twitter 400x400, LinkedIn 400x400, Facebook 170x170, YouTube 800x800. All display as circles.
For best results, keep the subject centered with some padding around the edges. Avoid having critical elements near the corners of the square since they will be cut off by the circular crop.
All processing happens locally in your browser.
