500KB is the sweet spot for high-quality web images that load quickly. At this file size, you can maintain excellent visual quality for images up to 2000x1500 pixels at 80-85% JPEG quality.
This target is ideal for blog featured images, portfolio photographs, product detail images, and any web content where quality matters but performance cannot be ignored. Most web performance audits flag images over 500KB as candidates for optimization.
