Compressing a JPEG image to under 100KB is one of the most common image optimization tasks. Many email clients, web forms, and content management systems have upload limits around 100KB, making this a practical target for everyday use.
The key to reaching 100KB without visible quality loss is finding the right balance between quality setting and image dimensions. For a typical web image at 800x600 pixels, a JPEG quality of 70-80% will easily fit under 100KB while maintaining excellent visual quality.
With ImgTools, upload your image and switch to the Compress tab. Adjust the quality slider until the expected output size approaches your 100KB target. For most photographs, quality settings between 60-80% produce results under 100KB at common web dimensions.
If compression alone does not reach your target, consider reducing the image dimensions first. A 1200x900 photo at 80% quality might be 150KB, but resizing to 800x600 first brings it under 100KB at the same quality setting.
