Compressing images to under 200KB is ideal for web use where you need good visual quality with reasonable file sizes. This target works well for blog post images, product thumbnails, and general web content where fast loading matters.
At 200KB, you can maintain excellent quality for images up to about 1200x800 pixels in JPEG format at 80% quality. For larger images or higher quality requirements, you may need to resize or accept a slightly lower quality setting.
ImgTools makes compression simple. Upload your image, switch to the Compress tab, and adjust the quality slider. The output is JPEG format, which provides the best compression for photographs. For graphics with flat colors, converting to PNG or WebP in the Convert tab might actually produce smaller files.
For web optimization, 200KB is a good target for featured images and hero banners. Thumbnails should aim for under 50KB, and decorative background images can often be compressed more aggressively.
All compression happens locally in your browser using the Canvas API. ImgTools never uploads your images to any server.
