BMP (bitmap) files store image data without compression, resulting in very large file sizes. A typical 1920x1080 BMP is about 6MB, while the same image as JPEG at 85% quality is only 200-300KB. Converting BMP to JPEG reduces file size by 90-95%.
BMP format is still generated by some legacy applications, screenshot tools, and medical imaging devices. Converting to JPEG or PNG makes these images practical for sharing, web use, and storage.
With ImgTools, upload your BMP file, select the Convert tab, and choose JPEG as the output format. Adjust quality as needed and download the compressed result.
For BMP files that contain screenshots or graphics with text, consider converting to PNG instead of JPEG for sharper text rendering.
